Daily Schedule

1/29 Thurs- early AM, leave Fox Valley for O'Hare, flight at noon. Late PM, arrive Lima and meet Donatelles.

1/30 Fri- 4 AM leave Lima, arrive Arequipa 5:20 AM where Bob will meet you at the airport and transport per clinic vehicle to Volunteer House to settle in, rest, breakfast, etc. Late morning orientation 11 AM with Bob, Karen, Lilia Alvarez, and Father Alex. After lunch, brief walk in neighborhood. 3 PM, Join & observe prayer and support group for elderly community members. 3:30 PM clinic tour & discussion. After dinner (6-7 PM), rest or to Plaza de Armas if desired.

1/31 Sat- Leave early AM (via clinic vehicles) for Mountain Communities (3 hour drive), with Father. See and learn about communities. Q&A with community members. Return that evening.

2/1 Sun- 7 AM to Yanahuara via combi or cab for brief sightseeing, Adobo breakfast at restaurant, cab back for Mass at 10 AM around 1PM lunch at Restaurante Costumbre (traditional local cuisine) and free PM (Arequipa sightseeing?).
Dinner at Volunteer House and discussion to set plans for the week.

2/2 Mon- 9 AM Clinic (all day). Each will spend significant time with professional counterparts (with interpreters) to learn as much as possible about the routines, issues, and challenges. Some will help deliver food in the community (11:30 AM) and others do home visits with nurses and/or Maria (social worker) throughout the day (experiences to be reversed 2/5). 1 PM lunch at Volunteer House, rest. Visit Ministry of Health Post next door to clinic (time to be arranged). 3:30 clinic. Dinner. Free time.

2/3 Tues- 9 AM Tour knitting and wood workshops and help out in Comedor (kitchen) doing basic food prep (interpreters). Food distribution 11:30 AM. 1 PM lunch and rest at Volunteer House. Learn about CFCA (Christian Foundation for Children and the Aged) (after lunch), Home visits (interpreters) through the day. Back to clinic 3:30 PM Dinner at Volunteer House. Evening downtown, dessert, shopping, sightseeing, etc.

2/4 Wed- Breakfast with brief discussion. Via cab or clinic vehicle, to 9 AM tour of Goyeneche Hospital with Ducelia Herrera, Medical Ministry International Peru project director and Brian Piecuch, International Director for MMI Walk to Plaza de Armas for coffee & follow-up discussion. Walk to Festejo restaurant for lunch (1 PM). then cab or combi to Volunteer House. 3:30 PM to clinic to formulate assessments to date and plan next two days. After dinner?

2/5 Thurs- 9 AM Clinic, home visits, professional peer discussions (interpreters). Begin to plan future AHS-Alto Cayma strategy. PM- Visit El Monasterio de Santa Catalina, Juanita (the famous mummy), el Recoleta. Dinner with Father, interpreters, and key staff.

2/6 Fri- 9 AM Clinic, etc. more discussion and future planning, written assessments. Lunch at Volunteer House.
PM off for shopping, whatever. cab to 7:30 PM dinner at Espadas de Manolo. Cab home.

2/7 Sat- early AM Bob accompanies Donatelles to airport (via cab or clinic vehicle) and the others (via clinic vehicle) at 4:30 PM for 5:45 flight to Lima. (Day is free until departure for airport) Leave Lima at midnight.

2/8 Sun- Arrive Chicago at 2 PM to meet Carrie/ Kristie for travel to Fox Valley.
