First Day Reflections

The mountains are all around us. Makes you feel so small.
The stone of the buildings are white. Lets you know you are no longer in Wisconsin.
But the people, the people are so welcoming. From the two elderly sisters, who serenaded us from their bed, because Olga never had her broken hip repaired and could not get up. The group of elderly, who meet every Friday in the Church. So many hugs and air kisses, my glasses were a smear of oil and sweat. To the children, absolutely fascinated by our digital cameras. Everyone just wanting to be in a picture with us or hold our hands or just share the few words of English they know. This is Arequipa, Peru. I don't think we have met all of the 1,000,000 people, but it feels like we got close.
