Sunday, Feb. 1 from Peru

Today we got up early and went to the city of Arequipa for breakfast. We had a traditional soup with pork that they have only on Sundays. Then we took a cab back to the church where Father Alex held a service. He did five services today. He even plays the guitar. There is nothing that man can't do.

We went back to town for lunch and then walked around for awhile again. The scenes vary from beautiful to not so but it is all very cool. We ordered several entrees for lunch and shared so we had a variety. The meal looked very colorful. Everything is fresh with lots of vegetables. John, Bernie, and I went to a museum to learn about the sacrificial mummies from the times of the Incas. Pretty interesting. We caught a combi for the trip back to the volunteer house. I have a picture with 27 of us piled in this tiny van. We are all now best friends.

Bob talked with Bernie and me before supper as we are going to the medical clinic tomorrow. He wants us to ask lots of questions but give no answers yet. We will just see what they are doing and then formulate some plans later in the week. Everything on the list he compiled Bernie and I can do or know of the connections to get it done. Of course this will take some time. I will send pictures hopefully later tonight. The people are great in every way. / except for the ones who stole Nancy's bag.
