May 14, 2009 Update on Samuel Hospital Stay

May 14, 2009

Samuel continues to make progress towards recovery in the hospital. There is talk of discharge by the end of the week or beginning of next week. Maria and Samuel's wife are starting to look for an alternative location for him to stay during his recuperation after discharge. The room where the family is staying now is not conducive to a healing environment, due to extremely hot temperatures during the day coupled with lots of dust and sun.

Maria continues to purchase the necessary medicines for Samuel with the donations from the special needs fund set up with Health Bridges International and the generosity of the Affinity group. Unlike hospitals in the States, where medicine and supplies are given and bills sent out later, the patients in Peruvian State hospitals will not receive medicines, supplies and certain lab tests if family or friends do not bring them to the hospital.

Samuel's father has been invaluable during his hospital stay. He remains at his bedside, assisting Samuel with his feedings, turning and comfort care. His father was extremely grateful for this first operation that Samuel has received.

Please continue to keep Samuel, his recovery and his family in your thoughts and prayers!

Have a wonderful weekend. Sending lots of love and blessings from Peru,

Karen
